The top two sites in Buenos Aires together: Plaza de Mayo & Recoleta Cemetery. Save US $5 off the separate purchase price!
Since many people purchase one walk then return for another, we have combined the two most popular routes in a single document… offered at a discounted price. There’s a lot to see, but these two sites combined are a wonderful way to spend your first day in Buenos Aires.
First visit Plaza de Mayo. It only occupies the equivalent of two city blocks, but there isn’t a more important public space in the city or even the nation. Site of the second foundation of Buenos Aires, Plaza de Mayo has witnessed cries for independence, civil strife, waves of immigration, Perón-inspired fervor & more than a few popular protests in recent years. There’s no place better to see the city’s past & present.
After a relaxing lunch, head to Recoleta Cemetery… by this time basking in the late afternoon sun. The walk focuses on art & architecture, a number of important historical events, a bit of urban legend & of course the cemetery’s most famous resident. Eva María Duarte de Perón—simply Evita to her devotées—had a bizarre post-mortem journey which is described at length. After seeing the nation’s beginnings in Plaza de Mayo, Recoleta Cemetery shows just how glorious an ending can be.
Price: US $10.99 via PayPal. Purchasing each walk separately would cost US $7.99 each, so the combo represents a discount of US $5! A link to download the PDF will appear after payment is confirmed. It’s a simple process, but be sure to hit the “Complete Transaction” button after payment to see the download link. Use Adobe Acrobat Reader to open & print the file.
Duration: Plaza de Mayo takes about 3 hours to see everything at a leisurely pace & should be visited first. More time will be needed to visit museums. Recoleta Cemetery takes around 2 hours. Remember it closes as 18:00… plan accordingly.
